LEIGH CAMPBELL: 'What I’d wear if I was pregnant in 2024.'

Welcome to the Nothing To Wear Edit where each week we curate the best picks from the topic we spoke about on the podcast. Listen to the full episode here.

My son is nearly five, which means I haven't been pregnant for quite some time. Back when I was, it took me a while to work out how to dress so I was comfy but also felt relatively ‘put together’.

I was working in an office (albeit a creative one) so needed options I could mix and match that were appropriate for meetings but that I could also throw on when it was the weekend.

If I had my time again and was expecting in 2024, here’s what my pregnancy and postpartum wardrobe would look like.

Next JoJo Maman Bootcut Maternity Jeans, $87.

A great pair of maternity jeans will become your BFF. I like this style because it’s not a skinny-style, but not wide-leg either (which can be a tricky shape with a bump). The bootleg cut gives a flattering curve to the legs, and the darker denim shade means you can dress them up, too.

Legoe Heritage Luxe Button Knit, $109.99.

I’m tempted to buy this knit and I’m not even expecting. Available in four classic colours, the cut curves nicely over your belly and is made in the type of fabric that won't cling in the wrong places during your postpartum. The button down sides mean you can feed easily, too. It ticks all the boxes.

Target Poplin Knit Midi Dress, $25.

A classic cut in a timeless colour that will go with sandals and a denim jacket, or pretty much anything else you have in your wardrobe. It's a no-brainer.

Uniqlo Maternity Leggings, $29.90.

A comfortable pair of black leggings is a non-negotiable. Wear them lounging around, running errands, or with a shirt, coat and blazer when you want to smarten them up. These ones come in a dark grey, too, and have excellent reviews. You’ll wear them once baby is here, too - I lived in mine.

Cotton On Maternity Dad Shirt, $39.99.

You need a classic white button-up shirt. You’ll wear it during your pregnancy and for quite a white afterwards, especially if you’re breastfeeding. Trust me. I still wear mine over swimmers all these years later.

Iaminbu Mawar Ruched Midi Dress, $320.

I attended three weddings during the nine months I was pregnant. I also had a bunch of relatively fancy work functions to go to, so needed a nice dressy option. If your situation is similar, I’d suggest investing in one ‘special’ dress, and make that your signature. This new-ish Aussie brand creates beautiful statement pieces for pregnancy and postpartum.

Birkenstock Arizona Ava Sandals, $100.

I developed a lovely foot pain during pregnancy called plantar fasciitis, which is not uncommon. It was due to the flattering of the arch from extra weight and looser ligaments.

Birkenstocks saved the day for me - the arch support eased the pain and the classic style was easy to style back with the rest of my pregnancy wardrobe.

Eden Maternity Column Skirt, $59.95.

A classic and comfy slip skirt is a great basic to have, especially for the mornings you just can't be bothered (because sometimes even pulling on pants can be too much effort). This one comes in both black and white and is worn comfortably over the belly.

Bae The Label What’s Next Nursing Tee, $79.

Looks like a cool oversized tee, which it is, but it’s also super functional. Boxy enough to wear while pregnant, you can then use the sneaky side zips to breastfeed without having to remove your top.
