'I'm plus-size and have been on the hunt for size-inclusive accessories. Here are my favourites.'

Accessories make an outfit. It's a well-known fact that has been drummed into every little girl's head from the beginning of time.

We all know a good piece of jewellery and the right handbag can complete an outfit. A good set of rings will make you look like a million bucks. Put a belt on those jeans you're wearing to cinch in the waist and you can avoid pulling them up for the rest of the day, too.

It's felt like somewhat of a rite of passage, to have all of the shiny, sparkly, glittery things. It was exciting to think about.

But what we didn't know, and what adults have consistently failed to mention to little girls since the beginning of time is that the fashion world might have a thing for a good accessory, but they're only accessible to some.

Among those who get left out are fat people.

But the world has changed since I was a little girl because now there are brands that are not just demanding bigger people be included, but are actually making products that will fit them.

From crossbody bags with straps that actually fit and rings made for chubby fingers to belts with the right amount of holes, here are all the plus-size accessories I'm eyeing right now.

1. Belts.

I own exactly three belts and I've owned them for at least seven years. I only pull them out for one specific pair of jeans, but other than that they stay firmly in the back of my closet... simply because I have aways found belts to be something that was never really made for a bigger body.

There are never enough belt loops in pants and there are never enough holes in belts. If they're not too tight, then they are ugly.

Alas, things have changed a lot since I last purchased a belt. Here are some amazing options I have in my cart right now.

2. Statement handbags

You know how bag handles are never quite... big enough? It seems inconsequential, but when you really think about it, if you can't fit a bag on your shoulder... then how is one meant to wear it?

Not every single handbag listed below even needs a strap, but they're all created with bigger girls in mind, which I happen to appreciate very much.

Bon Maxie Mini Bon Vivant Tote Bag in Jute Canvas/Almond Leather, $229.

3. Crossbody bags

Crossbody bags are the hardest to get right for plus-size women. Mostly because the bag strap needs to be.... loooong.

Thankfully, there are a few brands that are working to cater to bigger bodies — straps included! Here are some cuties I'm eyeing off atm.

Bon Maxie Sidekick Crossbody Bag in Black, $269.

4. Work handbags

My work handbag was a godsend when I first got it, but it's been about three years and I need to step up my game.

The brief is:

  • Large enough to fit my laptop and a few other essentials
  • A wide and long strap so my shoulder doesn't feel strained or squished
  • Can be worn with 100 different outfits (so black, blue or brown)

Commonry Colette Leather Hobo in Black, $399.95.

5. Rings.

A few weeks ago, I was chatting to one of my good pals when I saw a cluster of rings on her hands. I stopped her immediately to ask where exactly she had gotten them from.

Essentially, she told me that she'd finally been able to buy some rings that actually fit her fingers but couldn't tell me where because she'd bought every single one from a random pop-up shop at Sydney Markets.

I was devastated, but I've been on a mission ever since to find some adorable rings that are made for chubbier fingers. Here's what I did find...

6. Necklaces.

Ah. Here we are. Probably one of the more difficult tasks in writing this story was finding necklaces that would fit me. I have a large chest and a thick neck so I've never really been able to wear one unless I was okay with it getting lost in my bra.

This time, I did not want that. I want a necklace that sits squarely above my boobs. Something cute! Yes, you can always get a necklace extender, but I really wanted a good challenge. After measuring my own neck (yep, I'm dedicated to the cause), I was able to find a few that would fit perfectly...
