Sorry, but I can't stop thinking about this $183 million pre-wedding party.

The Ambani family from India is known for their immense wealth (to the tune of $127.6 billion, to be exact) and this week, we were all reminded of this simple fact. 

Case in point: the pre-wedding bash of Anant Ambani, the son of Asia's wealthiest man, and his longtime love, Radhika Merchant. They reportedly spent $183.6 million for the event. Yes, you read that correctly.

The highly anticipated three-day affair in Jamnagar was set to be a huge event, with a guest list of 1,200, Reuters first reported.

Keep in mind, this is a pre-wedding — not the big day itself. The couple doesn't actually tie the knot until later this year in July. Here's everything we know about what is set to be the most expensive wedding of 2024, if this three-day-long pre-party is anything to go by.

Who are Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant?

Anant Ambani, aged 28, is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani (Asia's wealthiest individual) and Nita Ambani.

Mukesh Ambani serves as the head of the Indian conglomerate Reliance, while his son — who is a Brown University graduate — holds a directorial position within Reliance's energy enterprises. The business deals in all sorts of things, from fossil fuels to developing solar panel manufacturing, as reported by BBC News.

That's not to say Anant's side of the family is the only one with wealth — Radhika, aged 29, is the daughter of Viren Merchant, the CEO of Encore Healthcare, a renowned pharmaceutical firm. Radhika is a graduate of New York University and serves as a director at her father's company.

The pair got engaged in a traditional ceremony at Anant's Mumbai residence in January 2023.

Who is going to Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding?

Notably, Rihanna, who was spotted arriving in Jamnagar on Thursday with A$AP Rocky, performed during one of the events on Friday. According to reports, she was paid $13.7 million for her appearance. In videos circulating online, the singer performed for Anant and Radhika, with a set list including her hits 'Work', 'B***h Better Have My Money' and 'All of the Lights.'

During the show, she gave a shout-out to the groom-to-be and his fiancée before singing, 'We Found Love.' In another clip from the evening, Rihanna said, "We're here tonight in honour of Anant. Thank you for having me here. God bless your union. I wish you all the best. Congratulations."

She then asked the audience, "How many of you believe in love? Make some noise for love."

She's not the only well-known figure who was spotted arriving in the city for the party, with charter jets flying in tech giants including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. There are also fellow Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Kumar Mangalam Birla, as well as many cricketers and Bollywood film stars, such as Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

American magician David Blaine also performed for the pair; and other reported guests included Hilary Clinton, Ivanka Trump and Bob Iger, according to The Indian Express.

The last celebrity to perform for the Ambani family was Coldplay back in 2019, when Anant's brother Akash married. As for his sister Isha's wedding in 2018? The family managed to line up Beyoncé for those nuptials.

 What is happening during Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding?

Before the star-studded weekend festivities kicked off, the pre-wedding celebrations began with a communal dinner hosted by the couple and their families for approximately 51,000 locals in a village near Reliance Township in Jamnagar, as per The Hindu.

Every family member, including the bride and groom, actively participated in serving traditional Gujarati cuisine to the local community — a gesture aimed at seeking their blessings. The Hindu reported that this community feast was set to continue over a couple of days.

As for the guests, they've been treated by Anant and Radhika. According to Reuters, along with those private performances by Rihanna and illusionist David Blaine, the festivities also include a visit to an animal rescue centre with more than 2,000 animals, including leopards, tigers and jaguars.

With up to 500 different dishes, cooked up by about 100 chefs, no one will go hungry (or... eat the same thing twice). Plus, there are hairstylists and makeup artists on hand to make sure everyone's photo-ready the entire time.

For those flying in for the party, charter jet flights were arranged for guests from both New Delhi and Mumbai. However, the guests were asked to "limit themselves to only two luggage items or three suitcases per couple".

Yep, based on the info about the pre-party alone, Anant and Radhika's wedding will certainly be one to remember.
