All the other stars who missed out on Oscar nominations, aside from Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig.

The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards have finally been announced, with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer leading the pack with 13 nominations. The film, which starred Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, is considered to be a firm favourite, and is expected to pick up several awards on the night.

Barbie has eight nominations, including for Best Picture, while Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera were nominated in the Lead Actor and Supporting Actress category for their roles in the film.

Meanwhile, for the first time in Oscar history, three of the films nominated for Best Picture - Justin Triet's Anatomy of a Fall, Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Celine Song's Past Lives - were directed by women.

However, this year's nominations also came with a lot of surprises, two of them being the absence of Margot Robbie in the Best Actress category and Greta Gerwig's snub for Best Director for Barbie – the most popular film in 2023.

And the Barbie snubs kept coming with Dua Lipa missing out on Best Original Song for ‘Dance The Night’ with Ryan Gosling and Billie Eilish left carrying the Barbie torch in the category.

Other notable snubs include Leonardo DiCaprio missing out for Best Actor for his Killers of the Flower Moon performance. The film was curiously snubbed for Best Adapted Screenplay despite receiving 10 nominations in a multitude of categories.

But there were two films arguably done dirtier than any other: May December and The Color Purple.

May December failed to receive much love despite its critically acclaimed performances with the three leads – Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton – all omitted from their predicted categories of Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.

The film also didn’t get acknowledged for Best Picture, which was the same story for The Color Purple, another critically acclaim women-led movie criminally underpraised this awards season.

Danielle Brooks was the only star to score a nomination for Best Supporting Actress with Fantasia Barrino and Taraji P. Henson both missing out.

Past Lives failed to get the acclaim it deserved with Greta Lee being snubbed for Best Actress and Celine Song going unacknowledged for Best Director. Yikes.
